The location of the Ruboni Community Camp makes it an ideal destination for mountaineers who are preparing for their ascent into the Rwenzoris, offering two nights/three-day tours to the new Mahoma trail, village tours, accommodation and a restaurant.
The camp is also an ideal place to relax and and experience stunning views of the mountains and witness the extraordinary wildlife unique to this region. Ruboni community camp also provides the opportunity to experience the Rwenzori nature and culture as part of your trip to Kibale forest National park, Queen Elizabeth national park or on your way from/to the gorillas.
The overnight hill trek starts after lunch with a local guide passing through local homesteads, coffee and banana gardens, giving you an opportunity to learn the local ways of life.
Day 1: Arrive at Ruboni Community Camp in the mid morning, from Kibale or Queen Elizabeth National Park. You will be briefed by the camp manager, have lunch, meet the guide and start the trek. Trekking will take you past River Mubuku, before starting the steep hilly terrain. You will be walking at a slow pace as you take in the views of the mountains and Mubuku valley that gradually get better as you go higher. Most of the walk passes by the local gardens, giving you an opportunity to learn the local farming experience. Once you arrive at the hill top, relax as you are surrounded by the most beautiful views of the Rwenzori mountains and Queen Elizabeth plains on the opposite ends of Mukluk valley. Before dinner is good time to view the Margarita views.
Day 2: It is recommended to wake up before the sun rises, listening to the sounds of the birds as the world awakes and taking in the most incredible views of Magherita and the Rwenzori mountain peaks. After breakfast descend to Ruboni Community Camp for a refreshing shower before your transfer to your next destination.
What to bring: Walking shoes, extra clothing for changing, water bottle, flashlight, worm clothing, layers, rain gear, long sleeved tops, trousers, personal items.
Requirements: Ability to trek on a steep trail.
At Ruboni Community Camp, you can book your accommodation, food and drinks at an extra cost. Choose between a twin room, panorama cabins or a self-contained banda.
Getting to the camp:
26km northwest of kasese twon. branch off at Nkenda electrical terminal, 10km on kasese fortportal road, then drive 17km towards the park gate. We are located at Nyakalengijo gate of Rwenzori Mountains National Park.
Included: 3 meals, camping gear and an experienced guide.
Excluded: Water and transport to and from the starting point.
